Cupping therapy is a time-honored healing practice with roots in ancient China, Egypt and Greece. Using gentle suction, cupping helps increase circulation, open up blood vessels, and clear areas of stagnation, encouraging the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance.
Cupping has gained increased popularity due to its use by professional athletes for recovery.
There are different types of cupping, including:
Fire Cupping – done with glass cups. Involves creating suction by removing the air inside the cup with fire. The cup is then quickly placed on the patients skin which creates suction. The cup itself does not touch the fire and remains cold.
Suction cupping – done with an air pump, and plastic or silicone cups.
